Revanth Reddy's Note-For-Vote Saga Continues

Congress MP A Revanth Reddy missed his hearing at the special Anti-Corruption Bureau court yesterday.
Hyderabad | 9th February 2021
Congress MP A Revanth Reddy, currently on a 140-km-long padayatra to protest the Centre's new farm Acts, failed to appear before the special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court, in connection with his infamous note-for-vote case, as he was scheduled to, this Monday.

Since the MP has been at the forefront of the Congress' Rajiv Rythu Bharosa protests against the three laws, he was unable to make it to court.

This left the court angered, and prompted it to issue notices to Reddy cautioning him that if he did not appear before the court, warrants for his arrest would be issued.

In the notices, the court reminded the MP that it had the duty to deal with the case at the earliest, as that was what the Supreme Court had ordered it to do.

The MP's lawyers, who were at court, sought one week to file a revision petition with the Telangana High Court regarding the "lack of jurisdiction" of the special court to try the case. They also urged the court to postpone the process of framing the charges by a week.

In response to the lawyers' request, the hearing of the case was then adjourned till February 16.

Meanwhile, the three others accused in the scandal, Bishop Sebastian Harry, Uday Simha and Mathaiah Jerusalem, did appear for the hearing.

The four have been accused of crimes under the Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC for their involvement in an instance of attempted vote-buying.
